Cloves are one of the oldest spices in the world. Native to Indonesia, cloves are the flower buds of the clove tree. Probably the only spice that can be stabbed into food, this popular way of flavouring pork roast or ham is unique and provides a stunning visual appeal.
Perfect For: Cloves have a strong relationship with pork & they are often used to stud hams. Its intense, rich flavour makes it a great addition to poaching liquids & casseroles. Use them to stud apples, oranges, & sweet potatoes before cooking. Spice up warm drinks such as hot apple cider, mulled wine, or chai tea.

Unleash the Flavour: Cloves' flavour compounds are oil based, so it doesn't dissolve and is best unleashed in long and slow cooking environments. Or to get fast flavour out of them, dry fry in a hot pan until they swell than add to your cooking.
